The Very Reverend Michael Sadgrove

Dean of Durham

The Dean is the principal dignitary, after the Bishop, of the Cathedral and, on behalf of the Cathedral Chapter, directs the life and work of the place.

Sub Dean and Canon Precentor

Canon Kennedy oversees the Cathedral's liturgy and worship.

The Reverend Canon Rosalind Brown

Canon Librarian

Canon Brown has responsibility for the nave of the Cathedral, traditionally the public face of the Cathedral's life including visitors, education, the Library, pastoral care and relationships with the wider community. She is also chair of Durham World Heritage Site Coordinating Committee.

Canon Jagger is Archdeacon of Durham and Residentiary Canon of Durham Cathedral where he serves as Canon Treasurer.

Adrian Beney

Lay Member of Chapter

Adrian is a member of the Cathedral's Development Steering Group and one of his children was a chorister at the Cathedral. Mr Beney works as a fund raising consultant.

The Revd Canon Professor Mark McIntosh

Residentiary Canon and Van Mildert Professor of Divinity

Canon Professor McIntosh is a Residentiary Canon at the Cathedral and teaches in the Department of Theology and Religion at Durham University.

Lay Member of Chapter

Carolyn is a Lay Member of Chapter and Head of Durham Johnston School.

Philip Davies

Chapter Clerk

Philip, as Chapter Clerk, is in effect the Administrator of the Cathedral and transacts much of the day-to-day business of the Chapter, also acting as Deputy Treasurer.

Elizabeth Baker

Education Officer

Elizabeth oversees the provision of educational material and guides for the school, college, and other educational groups who visit the Cathedral. She co-ordinates the visits of nearly 20,000 young people each year.

Jacqui Brown

Head of Finance

Jacqui manages all financial matters on a day-to-day basis and runs the Finance Office which administers income and expenditure as well as wages and accounts.

Nicky Crombie

Human Resources Manager

Nicky is responsible for leading the Cathedral's human resources strategy and managing human resources matters on a day to day basis, including providing advice and support to managers and staff in the Cathedral.

Yvette Day

Headmistress

Yvette Day is Head of The Chorister School, a co-educational day and boarding school for children aged 3-13.

Jeffrey Hewitt

Head Verger

Jeffrey runs a team of five full-time vergers and several part-time ("relief") vergers who keep the church in good order on a day-to-day basis and prepare it for the many special services and events which occur each year. He attends to the good conduct of the services as they proceed.

Anne Heywood

Visitors’ Co-ordinator

Anne is responsible for all visitor matters including supervising more than 500 volunteers who act as stewards and guides in the Cathedral.

John Holmes

Head of Property

John is responsible for managing the property and land assets of the Cathedral in Durham and the North East, in addition to investment properties in other parts of the country. He also manages energy procurement, fire safety and the specialist direct works team.

Gaye Kirby

Head of Development

Gaye works to plan and implement an ongoing development strategy for the Cathedral.

Canon James Lancelot

Master of the Choristers and Organist

James directs the provision of music in the worship at Durham Cathedral, trains the Cathedral Choir and the Cathedral Consort of Singers, and conducts the majority of the choral services.

John McGowan

Head Porter

Together with his colleagues, John attends to the security of the Cathedral precincts and helps to maintain good conduct in and around the Cathedral. The porters facilitate communication between members of staff in many different locations.

The Revd Rosemary Nixon

Pastor to the Cathedral Community

Rosemary provides pastoral support to members of the Cathedral Community, including worshippers, staff and volunteers. A team of voluntary chaplains are in the Cathedral during the week to serve our visitors.

Ruth Robson

Head of Marketing and Events

Ruth arranges all non-liturgical events and is responsible for the Cathedral's Marketing, Media and PR.

Gabriel Sewell

Head of Collections

Gabriel is responsible for the running of the Cathedral Library — both its modern and historic collections — and the Cathedral's other historic treasures.

Vanessa Ward

Business Support Manager

Vanessa has oversight of the retail functions of the Cathedral and provides administrative and operational support to the Chapter Clerk.
