Regular Services
There are 1317 routine services in Durham Cathedral every year. These include daily services of Holy Communion, Morning and Evening Prayer (said or sung), and weekly prayers for peace and justice. In addition, last year, there were 135 special liturgical events and services bringing vast numbers of people from different parts of the country (and, indeed, the world) and from all walks of life to celebrate the Christian faith in a wide variety of ways.
Sometimes, no more than a handful of people attends the early morning service of Holy Communion in one of our side chapels. On Christmas Eve, over 3000 people crowd the building for the great Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols!
The Sunday services are sung by Durham Cathedral Choir or a visiting choir. In general, Evensong is sung every day except Monday.
