Group Visits to the Cathedral

Durham Cathedral welcomes group visits, though we do ask that all groups contact us first. In the case of educational visits for school parties or other groups of children, please see the Education pages; otherwise, please refer to the information below.

To ensure that we can provide the best service for visiting groups, all group visits should be pre-booked by contacting: Enquiries, The Chapter Office, The College, Durham, DH1 3EH. Telephone: 0191 386 4266, Facsimile: 0191 386 4267, Email: visits@durhamcathedral.co.uk.

The reason we strongly advise pre-booking is that we are a very busy working church with more than 1,500 services and events each year. By contacting us, together we can try to ensure that your clients are able to visit the Cathedral at a mutually convenient time.

There is a charge of £5.00 (excluding VAT), concessions £4.00 (excluding VAT). Accompanied children under 16 free. This charge includes either a tour by a Cathedral Guide or a copy of the Short Guide to the Cathedral for each member of the group. These leaflets are available in English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Japanese, Arabic, Chinese, Hindi and Russian.

We also can arrange a variety of special tours, some when the Cathedral is closed to the public. These can be combined with a meal or reception in the Undercroft Restaurant. Conference organisers should contact us before planning a programme which is to include a visit to the Cathedral.
