Cleaner

Location:  Durham Cathedral 
Contract:  6 months in the first instance.  Following review of the weekly work                          pattern this position may become permanent.
Salary:      £7.85 per hour
Hours:      21 hours per week, to work 6 days out of 7, including weekends.

It is expected that the post holder will initially work early mornings, however this is a newly created position and the hours may vary on a daily/weekly basis and will remain under review. It is therefore imperative that the successful candidate is able to work flexibly.

Durham Cathedral is looking to appoint a part-time cleaner to work at this iconic World Heritage Site, which currently attracts around 700,000 visitors each year.  The post holder will join an established team and will be primarily based in the Open Treasure spaces.  Responsibilities consist of a full range of cleaning duties including the cleaning of exhibition display cases, extensive glass and brass work, dusting, polishing, vacuuming, sweeping and mopping.

Night Porter

Location:  Durham Cathedral 
Contract:  Temporary 
Hours:      10.15 pm – 6.45 am working 4 on/4 off on a rota basis
Salary:      £8.20 per hour

We are looking to appoint two Night Porters to provide over-night security cover at Durham Cathedral on a temporary basis working on a 4 on, 4 off basis.

Ideally you will have previous experience of security duties including experience of a variety of alarm and fire systems.  You will also have an understanding of the security issues associated with a significant historical building and its grounds.  You must have excellent communication skills and be able to demonstrate an ability to manage difficult situations.

The nature of the role demands an ability to work alone throughout the night as well as being flexible and able to cover day shifts, sometimes at short notice, (subject to the provisions of Working Time Regulations).  You must also be willing to adhere to strict confidentiality rules within the Cathedral.
