Preserving the Cathedral Tower for future generations.

The Cathedral Tower is currently closed to the public whilst we carry out vital repair and conservation works to the Upper Parapet. The project is part of a major repairs programme being undertaken to ensure the Cathedral’s buildings are maintained and conserved for this and future generations to enjoy.

The most significant element of the Tower - Upper Parapet project is stone conservation, which will be undertaken by the Cathedral’s own team of masons.  Other works to be completed include repairs to roof-coverings and rainwater systems, and the renewal of roof-access decking so that visitors can continue to enjoy the magnificent views of Durham offered from the Tower.

Subject to funding, further phases of work on the Tower Belfry and Lantern are planned.

To support the ongoing care and preservation of the Cathedral, please text DCAT11 £3 to 70070, or you can make a gift using one of the donation boxes in the church.  Thank you.

We would like to thank DCMS and ChurchCare, the Friends of Durham Cathedral, Sir John Priestman Charity Trust and The Alan Evans Memorial Trust for their support for this project.
