At Durham Cathedral we welcome over 700,000 people each year who come for a variety of reasons to this historic Christian church.  As part of our welcome and expression of the Christian gospel, we have hosted some artistic exhibitions either in the Cathedral or in the Undercroft Restaurant. With the opening of our Open Treasure galleries in 2016 we will be able to increase the number and scope of exhibitions of our own treasures and supporting exhibitions in the refurbished claustral buildings.

For the time being we have to focus our resources more carefully and this means that we are not able to accommodate any further exhibition requests for the Cathedral or Cloister until further notice. We realise that this will cause disappointment to some artists and we hope to be able to review this situation in the future, once we have had time to assess the impact of Open Treasure on our life at the Cathedral.

We will continue to host selling exhibitions of paintings or photographs in the Undercroft Restaurant. If you are interested in a selling exhibition there, please contact for more information about terms and conditions, and for a proposal form. Please note that we can only respond to proposals that are submitted in writing using the proposal form; we do not have the resources to respond to telephone calls or visits. We will respond to your initial proposal as quickly as possible and, if there is scope to explore it further will explain how we will do this with you.
Thank you for your interest.
