St John Passion performed by Durham Cathedral Choir and the Avison Ensemble

Begin Holy Week with a poignant performance of St John Passion, performed by Durham Cathedral Choir and the Avison Ensemble.

This Palm Sunday, 13 April, at 6pm join us as we begin Holy Week with a performance of Bach’s St John Passion – that great choral work which is a delight for the mind and a solace for the heart. The performance is given by Durham Cathedral Choir and the Avison Ensemble, conducted by Daniel Cook.

Tickets are not required and we encourage both regular attenders and new people to hear the remarkable piece of music. Doors open at 5.15 p.m. The performance begins at 6.00 p.m. and lasts just over two hours with an interval in the middle during which refreshments are available in the Cloisters.

Come and reflect on the moving story of Jesus’s sacrifice and love for the world in this poignant and stirring performance of one of Bach’s greatest works in the prayerful atmosphere of Durham Cathedral. If you know the piece well, you will want to be there. If it is new to you, you will not want to miss it.’
