The Woodlands and Riverbanks are a great outdoor learning resource.

So, what can you learn from the woodlands and riverbanks? Through the project, we’re providing formal learning opportunities for schools, university students and adult learners on a range of topics.

School visits include Outdoor Maths, Environmental Art, Science Surveys, Woodland Words, Geology Rocks, Historic Durham, Practical Geography, and Materials and the Environment. Visit School Visits for more information.

If you prefer to find out about the Woodlands and Riverbanks on your own, we are developing a set of self-guided trails and interpretation.

A self guided Geology Trail for families has now been created. It has been developed in partnership with Durham University and has been designed by final year Earth Sciences into Society students, Durham University’s Cartographic Unit with illustrations by Sam Church.  It costs £1 from the Cathedral Shop and the Information Desk at the back of the Cathedral.
