General Operative Supervisor (Fixed Term Contract - 6 Months)

Job description

Durham Cathedral is looking to appoint a General Operative Supervisor to work in this iconic World Heritage Site.  The post will join an established team in the Property Department to undertake and to supervise routine and emergency maintenance work in and around the Cathedral and precinct.  The post-holder must have some experience working within the construction industry, experience of line management and be able to work at heights.

 

Shortlisted candidates will be expected to attend a tour of the Cathedral on the day of the interview which will include accessing the higher levels in the Cathedral.
 

Please note that this role is a 6 month fixed term contract only.

Please note there are currently 2 vacancies.
Both vacancies are Fixed Term Contracts, for 2 years only, starting from September/October 2019.

Hours:
Post 1: 20 Hours (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday 10am - 3pm)
Post 2: 17.5 Hours (Thursday, Friday 10am - 3pm & Saturday 9:15am - 5:15pm)

Salary:
Post 1: £9464 per annum
Post 2: £8281 per annum

 

The Cathedral Office is seeking 2 part time Visitor Desk Assistants.  The Cathedral operates the Visitor Desk to create a professional and efficient response to visitors.  It works in tandem with the volunteer Stewards and Guides who provide a welcome and information service to all.  The post-holder will assist in the daily operation of the Visitor Desk, including encouraging visitors to donate to the Cathedral, the sale of exhibition & events tickets, tours, guide books and as well as signposting and information to visitors to the Cathedral. The role is based both behind the Visitor Desk and in front in a queue manager role.

Casual Retail Assistant

Job description

Durham Cathedral Trading Limited (The Cathedral Shop) is seeking to appoint a Casual Retail Assistant.  The shop is located in the western Undercroft to the rear of the Cathedral. It offers a wide range of gifts and books (it is the theological book stockist in the North East) to the many visitors coming to the Cathedral.  It plays a significant part in the activity of the Cathedral and contributes to supporting its work and conservation. The post-holder will work in an enthusiastic team and will assist in the daily operation of the Shop, including the maximisation of sales and the highest standard of customer service. Hours of work as required. The postholder must have the flexibility to work Saturdays and Sundays as well as Monday to Friday.
