Executive Assistant to the Dean

Durham Cathedral is seeking an Executive Assistant to the Dean, who will support the Dean in his complex and demanding role, through the provision of proactive and high-level executive support.

Durham Cathedral is today an active place of worship, the shrine of St Cuthbert and the “seat” of the Bishop of Durham. As well as serving the people of The Diocese of Durham and the North East, it is a world-leading tourism destination, being part of the Durham World Heritage Site.

The Dean oversees the life and mission of Durham Cathedral. He chairs the Chapter (the governing body), acts as Chief Executive to the organisation and has spiritual oversight of the Cathedral as a whole.

An exciting opportunity has arisen with the creation of the new role of Executive Assistant to the Dean. With the combination of spiritual, governance and executive responsibilities the Dean is looking for a person who is able to contribute across all areas of his ministry, especially as the Cathedral’s Vision 2033 takes shape.

The successful candidate will support the Dean in his complex and demanding role, through the provision of proactive and high level executive support. Demonstrable previous experience as either an Executive Assistant or comparable role at a senior level, working in a fast paced environment is required, alongside excellent communication and ‘people’ skills.
