Non-Executive Member of Chapter

Durham Cathedral is seeking to appoint two additional Non-Executive Members to its Chapter (the Board of the Cathedral). This is an exciting opportunity to play a key part in the life of this vibrant and historic centre of Christian worship and ministry at a strategic moment in its development.

Non-Executive Member of Chapter

In making these appointments, we actively welcome applicants from backgrounds under-represented in our current membership, as we believe this will enhance the quality of our discussions and decisions.

Discernment

We recognise that the role of a Chapter member is one of both significant responsibility and opportunity. As a Chapter we are praying that God will lead us in the process of mutual discernment with those who might offer themselves for these roles.

Non-Executive Member Role Description

As a member of Chapter, you will carry out your duties in support of the mission of Durham Cathedral which include:

  • Trustee responsibility for governance, leadership and strategic direction and oversight of the administration of the Cathedral’s affairs – including the management of risk, setting policies and ensuring compliance with our legal obligations.
  • Bringing expertise and insights from your professional experience elsewhere.
  • A commitment to collective decision-making and to our values, including a commitment to ensuring safeguarding is fully integrated into our activities, and a recognition of the importance of confidentiality.

  • Spending time praying for the Cathedral, and involvement as an Honorary Canon in the worshipping and ceremonial life of the Cathedral.

A full role description can be found here.
