Why do we think music is so important?
Music is at the heart of the life of the Cathedral. We believe anyone can sing, and the benefits of singing can be life changing. It is good aerobic exercise and helps develop cognitive learning skills.
We want children to experience the joy of singing and the sense of achievement it can bring.
Participating in music in this way has also been shown to boost children’s confidence and encourage positive social skills.
Which schools are involved?
We work with primary schools throughout Durham, South Tyneside and Sunderland. Around 800 children take part each year.
