Durham business community continue their support of Foundation 2020

04 June 2019

Since the launch of Foundation 2020 at Durham Cathedral in March 2018, over 40 businesses from across the region have pledged their support to the campaign by becoming 2020 Club members. For an annual donation of £250 businesses can join the club, associate their brand with the cathedral and receive exclusive benefits for their support. Thanks to pound for pound match funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, everything donated in 2018 has been doubled making the support of local businesses go further.

The money donated goes towards an endowment fund that once secured will enable Durham Cathedral to cover the costs involved in the routine repair of its buildings, forever.

Matthew Kirk, Relationship and Development Manager at Durham Cathedral said, “The support we have received from businesses across the region has been tremendous and just goes to show how much the cathedral means to those who live and work in the North East. Last year, with matched funding, we secured over £11,000 through 2020 Club membership. I’m delighted that the businesses who were first to sign up have pledged their support again for 2019.”

Since the start of 2019, Baldwins Accountants, Durham Business Group, Canny Insights, Durham Group Estates, Mortons Law, Peacock Carter and UHY Torgersens have all recommitted their support to the campaign.

Alison Gittins, CEO of Durham Business Group, said: “We are proud to be part of the 2020 Club, and are delighted that so many of our members from Durham and beyond have followed in our footsteps.

“We’re privileged to play a small part in supporting the cathedral’s ongoing care, activity and events programme. As businesses we share a passion for celebrating the strengths of our wonderful region, and to have a national treasure on our doorstep is truly a gift!”

Richard Carter, from Peacock Carter, added: “Peacock Carter has been a long-time supporter of Durham Cathedral. Even as a relatively small business, being able to support the North East institution is something we're proud to continue to do.”
