Cathedral launches mini LEGO model

11 December 2014

A miniature model of the LEGO Cathedral is now available for sale in the Cathedral Shop as well as LEGO postcards, a range of mugs and t-shirts.

Head of Marketing and Events, Ruth Robson, said: “The LEGO Cathedral project has attracted interest from far and wide, and right from the start, we’ve had people coming into the shop to see if we sold a mini version they could take home with them.

“We decided to look into the possibility of getting a mini-model and managed to secure a limited edition range of 500, designed by Bright Bricks, certified from LEGO. We anticipate they will be extremely popular gifts in the run-up to Christmas.”

The mini-model of the Cathedral is being sold alongside a series of postcards featuring images of the large Durham Cathedral LEGO build taken by one of the volunteer ‘LEGO Makers’ working on the LEGO Cathedral, Les Hancock.

65 year old Les, from Langley Park, said: “I take photographs as a hobby and while I volunteer on the LEGO model I was taking pictures of the progress. One day someone said it might be nice to have some postcards and so I was happy to take the photos for them.”

Durham’s LEGO Cathedral is a fundraising project that is set to raise £350,000 towards the public appeal for this current phase of Open Treasure. Costing £10 million, it will transform some of the Cathedral’s most historic spaces, creating an exhibition route that will include the Monks’ Dormitory and finish in the Great Kitchen, where the treasures of St Cuthbert will be displayed, alongside other Cathedral treasures and visiting exhibitions.

The Cathedral’s range of LEGO Cathedral merchandise is on sale in the Cathedral Shop. Orders can be placed by contacting the Cathedral Shop on 0191 386 8669 or
