Matthew is responsible for fundraising and relationships with individuals and organisations, within and beyond Durham, laying foundations for our future flourishing.
In 2022, Matthew also helped establish Durham Cathedral Institute, a public square initiative, in which he continues to play a leading role.
Background:
Prior to joining the team at Durham, Matthew worked in higher education, holding a portfolio of academic, pastoral and fundraising roles within the University of Oxford.
He is passionate about sharing the Cathedral’s story, as well as unlocking its potential to make a positive contribution to social transformation and the common good.
Alongside his role here, Matthew holds an honorary fellowship at Durham University and his latest book is a study of the culture of medieval monasteries, like Durham Priory: Blessed Mary and the Monks of England: Benedictines and Cistercians, 1000-1215 (CUA Press, 2024).
