As Cathedral Safeguarding Officer Lisa will be working collaboratively with the cathedral wide community, continuing to inspire and embed the understanding and practice that Safeguarding is at the heart of everything we do at Durham.
Lisa's remit is to provide excellent quality safeguarding advice, guidance and direction to staff and volunteers, provide a leading contribution to the work of the Strategic Safeguarding Group, provide specialist professional advice and guidance to Chapter on all safeguarding matters, implement effective safeguarding arrangements, good practice, risk assessment and management, develop policies and safeguarding training and ensure compliance with safeguarding legislation and Church of England Guidance.
Her role also requires the provision of specialist professional advice, information and support to victims/survivors of abuse, and ensuring the Cathedral responds in a trauma informed way to those who have experienced faith related abuse.
Background:
After qualifying as a Social Worker at Durham University in 1996, Lisa has worked as a practitioner and in leadership roles within the Local Authority and across the public sector. She has practised within Youth Offending, Child Protection and within family placement (kinship care) and has had responsibility for managing various preventative services for a large National Children’s charity.
Lisa has also worked as the Lead Safeguarding Adviser for a national early years charity and as an Interim Safeguarding Caseworker within a Diocese.
