There are many opportunities for students to get involved at Durham Cathedral.

Durham Cathedral has been a seat of learning for almost a millennium. Today we extend a warm welcome to all students and offer a great range of student benefits.

Whether you choose to worship, study or volunteer at Durham Cathedral, or simply visit this magnificent building, we hope you enjoy your time here.

Durham Cathedral is open daily and is free to enter. Whether you want to spend a few moments of quiet contemplation in the Nave or explore the Cathedral in more detail with one of our guided tours, we would be delighted to welcome you.

Durham Cathedral also boasts the most intact surviving set of medieval monastic buildings in the UK, now home to Open Treasure, the Cathedral's new world-class exhibition experience. Discover 2,000 years of history as you journey through some of the Cathedral's most spectacular spaces and admire objects from the Cathedral's collections.

Students can enjoy discount on Open Treasure tickets and guided tours. Please ask for more information at the Visitor Desk in the Cathedral.

If you are a Christian, want to know more about the Christian faith but haven’t made your mind up, or are just plain curious about what goes on in a Cathedral, we invite you to join us for worship. There are at least three services in the Cathedral every day. Most students who come to the Cathedral attend the 11.15 Eucharist on Sunday or Evensong.

Our ministry is inclusive and inspiring, and seeks to help you navigate life’s problems, grow spiritually and intellectually, find meaning in life, and discover a living faith. Whatever your beliefs, we are here for you. Just ask.

If you need a friendly person to talk to at any time about anything, we have a chaplain in the church every day available for anyone who wants a chat, so don’t feel embarrassed to ask.

Join in or help out as a volunteer. You can volunteer at special events, join the worship team, volunteer as an Open Treasure Gallery Steward, welcome visitors as a Cathedral Steward or help out in departments such as Marketing and Events. Call 0191 374 4068 for further details.
