Climb the central tower

Monday 3 June to Tuesday 31 December at 10:00 AM

Durham Cathedral's central tower is open to the public again after a three year closure for a major conservation project. The reopening is sponsored by Baldwins Accountants. Climb the 325 steps of the central tower to enjoy fantastic views over the historic Durham City and the surrounding countryside. You'll also get a close look at the repair works on the tower's parapet, which involved our small team of expert in-house stonemasons carve and install new hand-carved stone to replace weathered Victorian sandstone.

Children must be 8 years or older to climb the central tower. Sensible footwear is essential and climbing the tower is not recommended for those while health conditions that could be affected by climbing stairs.

Tickets: £5 adults, £2.50 children.

The tower is usually open Mondays to Saturdays 10am-4pm (last entry 3pm) and Sundays 1pm-3pm (last entry 2.30pm). Entry to the tower is subject to weather conditions on the day and activities in the cathedral church, and can change at short notice.

Get your tickets at the visitor desk inside Durham Cathedral.
