Glass Exchange: The Life of St Bede by Monster Chetwynd and The Moment by Katie Paterson

Saturday 26 March to Sunday 11 September

Bringing together ground-breaking contemporary artists with some of the most highly skilled glass makers in the country, Glass Exchange is an ambitious project led by the National Glass Centre to present four ambitious new art works in locations across the North East, including Durham Cathedral.

Monster Chetwynd’s The Life of St. Bede will be displayed at Durham Cathedral in the Galilee Chapel from 26 March until 11 September 2022. The work consists of four scenes: two scenes depict moments from The Venerable Bede’s life and two depict moments from St. Cuthbert’s life as described in Bede’s writings.

Katie Paterson’s series of hourglasses, titled The Moment, will be displayed at Durham Cathedral, Sunderland Minster and the National Glass Centre. This poetic and conceptual project considers our place on Earth in the context of geological time and change.

Glass Exchange is supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England, with additional funding from Art Fund, Henry Moore Foundation and the Coastal Communities Fund, and with thanks to the University of Sunderland and Durham Cathedral.
