The Cathedral has been a place of worship for almost a millennium.
Today, there are around 1400 services in Durham Cathedral every year.
These include daily services of Holy Communion, Morning and Evening Prayer (said or sung), and weekly prayers for peace and justice; as well as special liturgical events and services that bring together vast numbers of people from different parts of the country (and, indeed, the world) and from all walks of life to celebrate the Christian faith in a wide variety of ways.
In general, Evensong is sung every day except Monday. When the Cathedral Choir are on holiday, the services are usually sung by visiting choirs.
See What’s On for information about all services including special services.
