Jonathan Mayes, CEO of the Cathedral Music Trust took on an epic cycling pilgrimage, visiting over 100 choirs across England and Wales in just 50 days of cycling. This challenge covered 3,000 miles, with Jonathan raising much-needed funds for cathedral music along the way, stopping at cathedrals and historic churches to highlight the “world-class music” performed daily in these sacred spaces.
The vital funds raised for Cathedral Music Trust, enable the charity to continue to support cathedral musicians and choirs through programmes, including the Cathedral Music Support Programme and Church Choir Award.
The Cathedral Music Trust supports more than 125 locations, including all 42 Anglican cathedrals, through funding and advocacy. The charity works to help sustain the tradition of cathedral music in the face of mounting financial pressures.
Mr Mayes’ cycling challenge began at Canterbury Cathedral on March 3 and followed much of the official Cathedrals Cycle Route. He was greeted by Revd James Shelton, Director of the Cuthbert Centre for Pilgrimage and Prayer and attended Evensong.
