Durham Cathedral is looking for a Canon Treasurer, Non-Executive Member of Chapter

Durham Cathedral is seeking to appoint a Canon Treasurer as a Non-Executive member to its Chapter (the Board of the Cathedral).

The Chapter is the cathedral's governing body which provides strategic leadership and direction for the cathedral. This is an exciting opportunity for someone to play a key part in the life of a vibrant and historic centre of Christian worship, at a strategic moment in its development.

The Canon Treasurer's role combines the duties of a residentiary Canon with the stewardship of resources and the protection and restoration of the fabric of the building, its artefacts and the care of those who work in these areas of Cathedral life.

Guy Sampson, Chief Operating Officer at Durham Cathedral says,

“This is a key moment to join the Chapter as we embark on a new phase of Vision and Strategy under the leadership of Philip Plyming, the Dean of Durham. We are seeking a new Canon Treasurer and hope to attract a dynamic individual who can support us in this next stage. We are particularly eager to receive applications from candidates who can enhance the diversity of the Chapter, thereby enriching the quality of our discussions and decisions.”

As a member of Chapter duties include; Trustee responsibility for governance, leadership and strategic direction and oversight of the administration of the cathedral’s affairs as well as a commitment to collective decision-making.

In addition to bringing expertise and insights from their professional experience elsewhere, members of Chapter also have involvement as an Honorary Canon in the worshipping and ceremonial life of the cathedral.

The deadline for applications is at 9am on Friday 28 October 2024
