The service, which begins at 6.30pm on Sunday 8 June, will be led by a joint bands from local churches. Esther Prior, Bishop of Aston will preach and it will be hosted by the Very Reverend Dr Philip Plyming, Dean of Durham and Hannah Wilkinson, Youth Pastor at St Nicholas Church, Durham.
This contemporary worship is a first at Durham Cathedral and brings together people from different churches and different traditions across the region to celebrate Pentecost, the beginning of the Christian church’s mission to the world. The service will also include anointing and prayer ministry.
It is a wonderful opportunity to thank God together for the gift of the Holy Spirit to the Church and to celebrate how God is at work in the world today.

I am really looking forward to our first Pentecost Praise at Durham Cathedral. Durham Cathedral’s mission is to help people encounter God and know God’s love in Jesus Christ, and the gift of the Holy Spirit enables to us do just that. It will be wonderful to welcome people from all churches and backgrounds to our great house of prayer to celebrate the pouring out of the Spirit that first Pentecost – and on the Church today.
The service which is open to everyone, will see churches from across the North East attending and playing live music at the event, churches include; Stockton Parish Church, All Saints in Preston on Tees, Destiny Church in Stockton, Tees Valley Community Church and St Nicholas Church in Durham.
Hannah Wilkinson, Youth Pastor at St Nicholas Church said,
"We're so looking forward to gathering together in the Cathedral for Pentecost Praise with churches across our region to celebrate the gift of the Holy Spirit. At Pentecost, we celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit to all - all ages, all backgrounds, all people.
We're bringing our young people from St. Nics who are already hyped: to worship with other Christians and to get to do so in a building as cool and historic as Durham Cathedral."
Everyone is welcome to join Pentecost Praise on Sunday 8 June at 6.30pm, and visitors are also welcome to join Eucharist on the Day of Pentecost, beginning at 10am.
