Aidan joined Durham Cathedral as a volunteer Welcome Steward in 2022 and in recent years he has become a Visitor Experience Assistant.
He began volunteering full of passion for the cathedral, going above and beyond with an organised folder full of research on different areas of the cathedral, the Saints, artefacts and much more. When the opportunity arose to become a member of staff, Aidan jumped at the chance. In a few short years, he has gone from being a valued volunteer to earning the respect and admiration of all visitors, staff and volunteers at the cathedral.
Since then, Aidan has risen to every opportunity that has been presented to him and has become an expert in leading tours of the cathedral and museum, along with specialist tours including the upper levels of the cathedral and the Refectory library, which included learning how to safely handle the rare book collection. Aidan also supports the Marketing team by providing facts for social media.
It's not just cathedral staff and visitors who appreciate Aidan, his knowledge and customer service. Aidan is mentioned often in reviews, with some saying he is informative, engaging, 'top notch' and even that he is the highlight of their visit.
