Monday 9 to Sunday 15 November
To mark Safeguarding Sunday, Durham Cathedral will host a special installation inviting visitors to pause, reflect and consider what it means to walk in someone else’s shoes.
Walking in someone else’s shoes
Pairs of shoes placed within the Galilee Chapel will each carry the story of a victim or survivor of abuse, offering an opportunity to reflect on experiences that can often remain unseen or unheard.
The installation also recognises that, for some victims and survivors, the journey towards healing and rebuilding trust can itself be a long pilgrimage.
Visitors are invited to spend time with the installation and, if they wish, leave a message or prayer, or tie a ribbon to the LOUDfence as a simple act of reflection, solidarity and support.
The installation will be in place from Monday 9 November up to and including Safeguarding Sunday on 15 November.
About LOUDfence
LOUDfence is a visible act of solidarity, where ribbons are tied to railings, trees and displays with messages of care and support. It gives survivors, the Church and wider society a voice, celebrating openness and truth-telling where people have been silenced.
