Hugh Clist-Woodward

Hugh holds the position of DCCA Organ Scholar for the academic year 2023 to 2024.

Hugh's role includes assisting with the playing of the daily services and the training of the probationers. Currently in the first year of a music degree at Durham University, he is a member of St Chad’s College.

Hugh was born and educated in Gloucestershire, receiving his initial organ tuition from Dr Anthony Hammond (Cirencester Parish Church) and Jonathan Hope (Gloucester Cathedral). Post sixth form he elected to take a gap year, during which he held the position of Organ Scholar at the Dean Close Foundation in association with Tewkesbury Abbey. Under the direction of Simon Bell, he gained a breadth of experience in organ playing, concluding his time by qualifying as an Associate of the Royal College of Organists.

Outside of his role at Durham Cathedral, Hugh also acts as Senior Organ Scholar for the Chapel Choir of St John’s College, Durham.
