We do our best to accommodate broadcast crews, photographers and journalists at special events and, where appropriate, some services. We would appreciate it if you could give us as much notice as possible, particularly for attendance at services.

Media, broadcast, social media, documentary filming requests

If you are looking to film at Durham Cathedral and include content about the cathedral or its history, we welcome filming requests for large and small productions.

Durham Cathedral has been in documentaries and lifestyle programmes including Matt Baker: Travels with Mum and Dad and Channel 5's Britain's Great Cathedrals: To the Glory to God.

Durham Cathedral as a filming location

Durham Cathedral has provided stunning settings for film and TV productions, including the first two Harry Potter films, and Avengers: Endgame.

Commercial Photography

Commercial photography on Durham Cathedral property (both inside and outside buildings), including wedding photography, must be agreed by prior arrangement with the cathedral. A permit must be issued and fees apply. Please contact events@durhamcathedral.co.uk for more information.

Drone Filming

For safety and security, we have a permissions process for people wishing to fly drones on cathedral grounds, including the cathedral-owned sections of the riverbanks around Durham City. Permission to fly drones needs to be arranged in advance, and fees apply. Please contact media@durhamcathedral.co.uk.
