St Cuthbert Festival: Stories of Sanctuary

Thursday 21 March at 7:30 PM
Durham Cathedral

Stories of Sanctuary returns to Durham Cathedral ahead of a national tour. It captures the heart and soul of the stories of sanctuary sought in the city of Durham, both past and present, through spoken word and song. This performance showcases songs written by participants of different backgrounds including Syrian refugees, in a series of workshops facilitated by Durham based folk-singer-songwriter Sam Slatcher.

Experience a thousand years of Durham’s history of sanctuary – from the arrival of an exiled monastic community carrying the body of the much loved Saint Cuthbert in the 10th century, through to refugees that have recently arrived in the UK from the ongoing civil war in Syria.

The songs will be performed by Sam Slatcher, along with guest musician Raghad Haddad, a viola player from the Syrian National Orchestra, as well as some of the participants of the workshops.

Tickets £12-£15 available from the link above or by contacting our Visitor Desk on 0191 338 7178.
