Solidarity Forever! Banners of the Durham Mining Community

All day

22 October - 7 November. Commemorating the 40th anniversary of the Miners’ Strike of 1984-85, and celebrating the continuing solidarity of the Durham mining communities, a colourful selection of banners from the region’s many union lodges will be displayed around the Durham Cathedral this autumn.

Morning Prayer

8:30am to 9:00am The Shrine of St Cuthbert

Morning Prayer is a said service with prayers, psalms and bible readings. We pray for God’s blessing for the day ahead, for the world and those in need. The service lasts around 30 minutes.

Daughters of God: Women at Durham Cathedral - Museum Exhibition

10:00am to 4:00pm

Take a deep dive into the various roles women have played in the past and present at Durham Cathedral, as we mark 30 years since the first female priest was ordained, with the latest museum exhibition.

October half term activities

10:00am to 4:00pm

This October half term be inspired by the Miner Banner display and make a mini banner to take home.

Holy Communion

12:30pm to 1:00pm

A service of prayers and Bible readings, in which we offer bread and wine to God in thanksgiving for his goodness to us, which we receive back as the body and blood of Christ. The service lasts around 30 minutes.

Evensong is a service of bible readings, psalms and prayers. The Choir sing for us accompanied, usually, by organ music. We follow the service using the Book of Common Prayer of 1662 giving thanks for the day that has past. The service lasts around 45 minutes.
