Rebekah Best

Head Verger

Rebekah, along with a team of Verger’s help prepare and set up for all services and events that take place in the Cathedral, the Verger’s work 365 days a year.

Rebekah and her team participate in the Cathedral’s daily and special acts of worship and they help in being caretakers for the Cathedral.

Background

Rebekah previously served as a relief verger at Durham as a teenager, prior to moving to the Midlands in 2007 to work for the charity Youth for Christ in Burton-on-Trent.

Rebekah’s work with Youth for Christ brought her back to the North East, as she spent a year working with young offenders at Low Newton and Castington. Rebekah joined the Cathedral’s team of vergers in 2012, and in 2023 became the first female Head Verger at Durham Cathedral.
