Durham Cathedral was built to inspire awe and enable a rich encounter with God. Celebrating the diversity of the visitors that come to Durham, we want to develop our capacity to offer everyone a welcoming and engaging place to encounter God.
This work will include:
- telling the stories of our saints, Cuthbert and Bede, in a way which foregrounds their living faith and which connects with today’s world
- developing our welcome, facilities and resources, so that people of every background feel comfortable in Durham Cathedral
- tackling barriers to accessibility, so that all people feel welcomed into Durham Cathedral and are able to engage fully with our story
- strengthening our pattern of flourishing worship, drawing on our choral tradition, so that people can have a range of opportunities to encounter God in worship
- maintaining our commitment to continue to offer entrance without charge by exploring new ways of raising revenue meaning that the cathedral remains open and available to all
