For centuries, Durham Cathedral has been a focus for pilgrimage. Celebrating the gift of pilgrimage as an opportunity for everyone to step back to reflect on life and meaning, we want to welcome and celebrate every pilgrim who comes to Durham and ensure that every visitor has the chance to learn what pilgrimage is.
This work will include:
- expanding our welcome to individuals and groups on pilgrimage and making their experience within Durham Cathedral a transforming and fulfilling one
- enabling all visitors to Durham Cathedral to understand the historical practice and contemporary and personal relevance of pilgrimage, from all starting points of faith
- in partnership with other stakeholders, championing the promotion and development of the Northern Saints Trails, so that Durham Cathedral is seen as a leading pilgrimage destination in the country
- developing a culture of pilgrimage across the cathedral and organising small and large-scale pilgrimages from the UK and across the world
