Booking a group visit

Groups of all kinds are welcome to join us at the cathedral. We ask all groups to book ahead, which allows us to make sure there are no major events or services that would disrupt your visit.

We can arrange a package for your group visit, so please see below of what we can offer, or just get in touch.

Group visiting times are: Monday - Saturday, 9.30am - 5pm and Sunday 1pm - 3pm. Out-of-hour visits can be arranged by approval.

Tours

Take a tour of the cathedral with one of our expert guides and discover hidden gems and fascinating stories about the cathedral's rich history. Alternatively pre-booked groups are welcome to explore the cathedral without a guide by their accompanying academic or certified blue badge guide.

Tours are also available in the evening, for a unique experience after the cathedral is closed to the public, and can be packaged for optional drinks in the Cloister and dinner in the Undercroft Restaurant.

If you have something else in mind, we can offer bespoke tours or talks on specialist subjects, including pilgrimage, stained glass windows, art & sculpture, embroideries & textiles or peeping behind the scenes in the Library and Chapter House.

Durham Cathedral Museum

Be sure to include a visit to Durham Cathedral Museum to see the spectacular 14th century Monk's Dormitory and magnificent Great Kitchen, housing the unique Treasures of St Cuthbert, alongside some of the most magnificent surviving Early Medieval artefacts in the UK.

We can offer a range of catering choices such as lunch or cream tea and scones after your tour.

Exclusive additions to your visit

Add a special touch to your visit with a private organ recital, with visitors seated in the 17th century carved wooden stalls in the Quire, the heart of the cathedral. Or, book the 13th century Chapel of the Holy Cross, a tranquil chapel underneath the Deanery for private prayer and reflection as part of your visit. Visit after-hours when the cathedral is closed to the public and experience the serenity of the evening.
