Meet the Executive Leadership Team

Charlie is a member of the Cathedral’s Chapter and leads in a variety of areas relating to pilgrimage, visitor experience and programming. 

Rebekah, along with a team of Verger’s help prepare and set up for all services and events that take place in the Cathedral, the Verger’s work 365 days a year.

George is responsible for the regular oversight of the financial processes of the Cathedral including preparing and monitoring against budgets and ensuring all processes are followed correctly. 

Daniel manages the Music Department, including the Cathedral Choir and organists, as well as playing for a number of services and recitals.

Michael leads the Facilities/Property team at Durham Cathedral, overseeing sustainability initiatives, maintenance, and site management. His work includes decarbonisation projects, space management, and ensuring the effective operation of the Cathedral’s historic and modern facilities.

Alison is responsible for the care and management of all the Cathedral's heritage collections, from our medieval archives and manuscripts to the beautiful objects and artworks visible in the cathedral everyday. 

Hannah's department covers all activities in Trading, Events and Catering.  Hannah oversees retail in the cathedral shop, catering in the Undercroft Cafe, group travel, special events and concerts and also venue hire.

Michael deputises for the Dean of Durham as Vice-Dean.

Caroline was appointed Head of Human Resources in January 2025, having joined Durham Cathedral in October 2023 and is responsible for HR delivery and support to the cathedral through a small HR team.

Gary oversees the team of stonemasons and joiners tasked with the repair and maintenance of Durham Cathedral and precinct. 

Dan works with the Precentor to co-ordinate the liturgy and worship which takes place at the cathedral. 

As Dean, Philip leads and oversees the overall life and mission of Durham Cathedral.

As the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Durham Cathedral, Guy has overall responsibility for the lay administration, non-liturgical governance and operations of the Cathedral.

As the first Director of the Cuthbert Centre for Pilgrimage and Prayer, James will oversee the creation of new facilities around the Chapel of the Holy Cross and lead on setting up the Cuthbert Centre to resource pilgrimage and prayer across the region and beyond.

Andrew oversees all aspects of the visitor offer at the cathedral, including learning, events and arts programme. Andrew also plays a role in the wider leadership at the cathedral and is a member of the Executive Leadership Team.

As Director of Development, Paul oversees the planning and delivery of all fundraising activity — from regular, legacy and major gifts by individuals to grants, partnerships, and corporate donations — ensuring that everyone can contribute to the life and vision of the cathedral.

Having started the role in May 2026, Jane will take forward the Proclamation strand of Vision 2033 and work as Co-Director of the Durham Cathedral Institute.
